HANDS-ON
SCIENCE
 Hands-On
Science allows students to perform their own experiments using
everyday objects. Our presenters take your students through how
to work scientifically with an emphasis on observations and thinking
skills.
We
first discuss how the workshop will run, including safety information
and procedures. We also give a brief summary of each experiment
and discuss trategies to effectively perform each one.
Every
experiment includes an easy to read, step-by-step instruction
as well as some information about the experiment details. At the
end of the presentation,
our presenters give the opportunity for students to ask questions
relating to the workshop or about science in general, finally
showing students how to make our famous (or is that infamous)
Science Fantastic Vomit Slime.
We
also discuss safety issues and outline why it is important to
do science well. Our workshops will include a variety of different
themed experiments (around 20) which will include:
Balance
and Forces
Test your skills at defying gravity. We take your students through
a series of tests involving forces and pressure. Using their own
sense of balance, we show you how gravity can work for or against
us!
- Bike
Wheel Gyroscope
- Turbo
Bottles
- Pressure
Marshmallows
- Balance
Sticks
Test Your Body
The
body is an amazing machine. Learn how the different parts of your
body function with some interesting endurance tests. Learn about
your senses and how all the bits and pieces work together to make
the most amazing machine known - YOU!
- Colour
Confusion - Reading Colours off chart
- Body
Contortions - Try to do amazing things with your limbs and fingers
- balance tests
- Reaction
Game - Test reaction speed - dropping ruler plus electronic
game
- Heart
Rate - Star jumps verses hula hooping
Forensic Science
Using your scientific skills, try to solve the mystery of the
stolen Maths Book. Through a variety of real-life forensic experiments,
your students into the detective seat. These experiments help
students to make the connection between science and some of the
more practical aspects of society. A real challenge for science
sleuths!
- Chemical
Toxicology - iodine/vinegar tests
- Body
Fluids - Testing different body fluids
- Ink
Chromatography - testing different inks
- Odour
Detection - Which sample contains the one described by witnesses
........................
Cool Chemistry
Learn all about chemical change through a series of really neat
experiments design to teach your students about reactions and
energy. Using safe chemicals, find out how substances are both
powerful and easy to change. Colours will flash and lumps are
made in an exciting array of easy to do tests.
- Cool
It - Hypo crystals turn water cold
- Starch
Blast - testing starch in items
- Proper
Copper
Science
Illusions
Everything
is not what they seem!. Using a cool array of optical and 3D models,
your students will learn at first hand how the brain can be tricked
into thinking things are different from reality. Using both ancient
and modern experiments, we show you how the hand really is quicker
than the eye! Some say it's MAGIC - we show you that it's merely
SCIENCE!
- Hypno
Spinner
- Pheokistascope
- Gyroscopes
Environmental Science
Learn about environmental issues through our earth science experiments.
Ranging from weathering to acid rain, these tests highlight the
how fragile our planet can be and the need to protect our world
for future generations. A fantastic unit for 'down to earth' students.
- Acid
Rain - pollution and environment issues
- Foiled
Again - Testing Metal density
