About
Science Fantastic
The ultimate aim of SCIENCE FANTASTIC
seminars to assist educators to be better equipped within their
classrooms and professional development.
SCIENCE FANTASTIC was formed to provide an alternative science
experience for primary-aged students. Initially designed as a once
off presentation, it has grown into one of the largest school science
programs of its kind in Australia entertaining and inspiring thousands
of children in Queensland, New South Wales and overseas countries.
SCIENCE
FANTASTIC was devised by Kent Buchanan, the original presenter
of the workshop who had the vision to foster the imagination and
enthusiasm of primary students in the areas of science and technology.
Kent had planned a career in scientific research before changing
direction towards the areas of science education. Having worked
extensively in tertiary, secondary and primary levels of education,
Kent saw the need to get children actively involved in the doing
of science.

In his capacity as Science Lecturer of a Queensland teacher training
institution, Kent has traveled extensively throughout Australia
and overseas talking to teachers, students and parents about science
and the needs of young people in their science education. He believes
science should be accessible to everyone and should not only be
practical, but fun to do.
SCIENCE
FANTASTIC was developed to compliment science programs in
the classroom using everyday objects. Through the workshops, teachers
and students can have the opportunity to discover for themselves
the wonders of science while they perform their own experiments.
Any school age group can enjoy and participate in the activities
and learning experiences offered in a SCIENCE FANTASTIC
presentation.
It
is hoped that SCIENCE FANTASTIC will foster in students
a new or renewed interest in science and technology and encourage
them to "get their hands dirty" in the doing of science.
Our workshops have been designed to make science a source of fun
and adventure for those who want to learn.
