SCIENCE FANTASTIC'S WORLD FAMOUS

VOMIT SLIME RECIPE

YOU WILL NEED
Glass Jar with lid, PVA Glue, Food colouring, Sorbolene hand lotion, 2 plastic spoons, Glycerine, Saturated Borax Solution, Soup Mix

HOW TO DO IT
1. Into a glass jar add the following:

  • · 1 cm PVA glue
  • · 2 drops of Glycerine
  • · 2 Teaspoons of hand lotion
  • · 2 drops of red food colouring
  • · 1 drop of green food colouring
  • · 3 drops of yellow food colouring

2. Stir thoroughly until completely mixed
3. Add a teaspoon of Saturated Borax solution and stir well
4. Keep adding a bit of borax solution and keep stirring until the slime sticks to itself and comes away from the sides of the jar
5. Add enough borax to cover the slime and give one last stir
6. Remove slime and rinse slightly under the tap for a few seconds
7. Store in a sealed container

You can make other types of slime by using different food colours. The slime becomes more rubbery if less hand lotion is used. Similarly, the more hand lotion used, the slimier the slime! Experiment to see what types of slime you can make.

The PVA glue is a plastic polymer and reacts with the borax to form a different polymer. The borax must be saturated, as any excess water will make the reaction difficult to produce a good polymer. The slime will last about a week and needs to be stored in an airtight container. The principle behind this experiment is called POLYMERISATION.

TEACHERS PLEASE NOTE:

Adding enough borax crystals to a glass of water so that no more crystals will dissolve when stirred makes saturated borax. Too much food colouring will come off on your hands so only use a few drops. Please warn students not to allow small children or animals near the slime as it must not be ingested. If the slime is ingested, seek medical advice immediately. The slime contains borax which is a caustic solution so be careful not to get any in your eyes. It is suggested that goggles be worn during the making of the slime. Wash hands after each use of the slime. PVA glue may damage some surfaces if left to dry. PVA glue can be washed off with cold water before it sets. Slime can get caught in carpet, hair or clothing. To remove the slime, it is recommended that ice be rubbed over the area and the hardened slime can be picked off like chewing gum. SCIENCE FANTASTIC claims no responsibility for damages or injuries to persons or property resulting from this experiment.
